This blog is primarily for personal use to record the cycling and walks that I have used and enjoyed on my return from a prolonged period of inactivity and building up my fitness for the future. If any walks or rides interest you please feel free to download the GPX file and enjoy them yourself. WARNING – some may be incomplete.
My journey started in June 2024 when our wonderful NHS finally got my late onset asthma under control after four years which at times had made even walking a short distance difficult. It was with trepidation I went on my first six mile walk with EnBro. It was hard but I did it. The walks got easier as my fitness progressed. I had been a long distance cyclist and the return to riding with my old club – The Anerley – was more challenging. First I got a Swytch kit to convert an old bike into an e-bike. This meant hills were not to be feared. I started by doing short London rides with cycle Islington, Croydon Social and The Fridays.
These became progressively easier too. I was surprised by how speedily the old body found some of its old form. I found I was using the motor less and less – while still carrrying the weight as a penalty. Finally I started doing rides on a non-assisted bike. These are still hard and I do need lower gearing to be comfortable. The e-bike is still there for faster and more hilly rides.
This is a story still in progress … if it inspires you to do likewise that would be a bonus
